had farewell dinner with colleagues at Pizza Hut, Taipei. In contrast to those in Malaysia, Pizza Hut here serves in buffet style, eat as much as you can ;-)

PhD graduation ceremony-part2

PhD graduation ceremony

Yeah! Officially completed PhD at Exeter Uni. Attended graduation ceremony last month. Unlike Malaysia, I like the fact that the flow of events here is simple as there is no so many speeches from VIPs and stalls that sell flowers and souvenirs. Come on, after all it’s our big day and not VIPs’. Too many stalls selling flowers and dolls make me feel like the graduation ceremony is sort of commercial event and seems to make the entire ceremony become a market place.

Day trip to the Northeast and Yilan Coast

A day trip to the Northeast and Yilan Coast National Scenic Area in Taiwan: went to Bitou, Longdong & Fulong. These areas give a spectacular view of Pacific Ocean and geo. stones.

badminton game at sinica

Played here twice (academis sinica activity centre), nice sport complex, it has basketball, volleyball, badminton, tennis, gym, swimming pool etc facilities. For staff, only cost $50 per entrance.

Day trip to Yangmingshan

One day trip with colleagues, went to the the Yangmingshan National Park where we visited the sulphur spring, reached the tallest peak of Taipei's Qixing Mountain, which is located on the Datun Volcano Group (the highest [dormant] volcano in Taiwan).

back in UK

I went back to UK with my family to attend my PhD graduation, as well as travel around.

will share more about this trip in future posts ;-)

Begin to learn new knowledge beyond my technical skills, coursera offers many free and useful short courses. It's not easy though, given that you need to have commitment to do home work, spend time to attend video lecture etc.

A farewell with former post-doc in the lab, who is going to USA for his second post-doc. Very yummy burger.
