The Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh (RBGE) was founded in the 17th century as a physic garden. Now it extends over four Gardens boasting a rich living collection of plants, comprising 70 acres of land size and is a world-renowned centre for plant science and education (http://www.rbge.org.uk/the-gardens/edinburgh). Nearly 34,000 plants are grown at the RBGE and these represent nearly 17,000 different species from all over the world, or about 7% of all known plant species (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Botanic_Garden_Edinburgh).
