February-Chinese New Year Celebration
Anyway, I am not active on twitter、facebook、blog, simply because :
February is the great period for us to celebrate this wonderful festival. That’s Chinese New Year (CNY). I would like to see my friends spending their time with friends and families rather than hooking on the internet, esp. social networking sites. For this reason, I didn’t share any news, twits, status updates etc. (except few shceduled posts regarding Christmas celebration whereby myself also don’t know how come these articles published in wrong period..haha).
Sorry for any inconvenience that may caused. I understood my friends concern about my latest progress.
I came across some updates on social networking sites, and learnt that some people blamed about troubles encountered etc. Come on mates, cheer up and you are not suppose to let these –ve moods ruin your celebration.
Some complained bored life in hometown, which I think is inappropriate. I think you should spend this precious moment with you family.
Ok, let’s me share some of the CNY events (more pics will be coming soon):
the day before CNY eve:had dinner with housemates (total 5 people) in a Chinese Buffet Restaurant situated at the city centre.
CNY eve: Completed planned research works at 3pm. Then went to the Uni’s official CNY celebration. Vice chancellor of the uni and Exeter’s mayor celebrated this exciting moment with us. There’re some cultural events, lion & dragon dance, fireworks show in the celebration.
We had re-union dinner on the same day, and I learnt to make dumpling.
After 5-hour dinner, I have done some readings。
First day of CNY:
2010 is the year of tiger, and since I born in year of tiger, therefore wearing new, red colour in the first day of CNY will boost your luck.
I stayed at home in the first day of CNY, recharged and took a great rest. Nothing special happened here, but there was a great event in my hometown. That’s
My mother (including uncles/aunties) re-unite with her sister that lost in contact for more than 55 years.
which mean at last my grandparents’ 3 sons & 9 daughters gather together.
On that day, nearly all the relatives (>100 people) gather at my home and there was a press conference & photo sessions. After that, a reunion dinner in a local restaurant.
hope to visit “new” aunty when I go back later.
Day 2 of CNY –>Now:
Since CNY is not a public holiday, therefore I started research works as usual. I have pretty packed shcedule as I need to complete planned works so that I can enjoy a great vacation later of the year.
I have started PhD research 4 months ago, and have been arranged to give a presentation in a deparmental meeting with my supervisor. (although is quite early for me, but I am pleased with the exciting opportunity given). I got positive feedbacks from colleagues and these are encouraging.
Also, established new experimental approach in my lab from skills attained in previous lab.
Recently, my supervisor met with previous supervisor in Glasgow, and I got positive comments from them, which make a good start for my career here :-p
Will be watching a new movie called “Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief” and attending a new year dinner organised by Chinese student society.
Lastly, wishing everyone has a great CNY celebrations.

introducing HootSuite—new twitter experience
came across this site few months ago, HootSuite is a multi features web-based twitter client.
It allows you to post scheduled twit (so don’t surprise if you see I tweet every 2 hour, the same applies on facebook as well).
with scheduled twit, I can shared interesting articles/ website at desired period, so that I will not spam other people facebook / twitter front page.
Besides, a Mozilla plugin is available, (a button that next to ‘home’ button). You can directly tweet/ scheduled tweet when browsing an interesting page/ website, simply by clicking the button of this plugin.
you also can integrate facebook & word press account in one site. Likewise, you can update latest status on facebook, wordpress, tweeter simultaneously.
furthermore, you can perform statistical analysis on website you shared through HootSuite and find out your tweet traffic on shared website/url/link, location of readers and also the popular post among tweets you posted.
I noticed most people like to view current issue and relationship items. Having this statistic data, I can decide when is the golden period to upload worth reading items, and also what information my readers prefer.
for more info, visit the HootSuite main page at

math formula that predicts you proposal age
First the mathematicians worked out a fiendishly complex equation:
∑ (n-k) (n-k-1) (n-k-2) … (n-k-r+2) x k x (1)
n (n-1) (n-2) (n-r+2) (n-r+1) (r-1)
STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE
Choose the oldest age by which you want to get married, for example 39. Call this number 'n.’
Decide the earliest age at which you'll start to consider women as potential wives, for example, from 20 onwards. This number becomes 'p'.
Subtract 'p' from 'n' (20 from 39) then multiply the result by 0.368.
This gives you 6.992, which you should add to your minimum age (20).
The result of 27 (more or less) is your Optimal Proposal Age.

what a hectic day
The day before, slept at 2 am, spending whole night to look at information on the genes of interest. Also, Prof suggested me to give a presentation in Plant Science group meeting next week, I had accepted and therefore I need prepare some slides this weekend too. @-@
The next day, morning 3 hr demonstration @ 9am morning. As my Prof said, we always see some “odd stuff“ from students’ practical. I believed some of them didn’t do pre-reading before come to the practical session.
follow by research discussion, to troubleshoot some troubles faced in previous experiments and advice on new experiment setup. Afternoon, 2 h meeting with more and more information need to be sorted out and clarify .
This is followed by literature searching, as we have to plan ahead, consider every single step carefully before conducting new experiment.
Also, an insightful discussion with colleague who are taking the assignment for UK Higher Edu Academy, everyone also upset with students’ attitude today, whereby they prefer to be spoon-fed rather solving out problems themselves
Back home for dinner, take a short break.
Back to lab to do some plant tissue culture work and spread out bacterial culture in order to look for recombinant DNA.
Settle all bench works at 1am the next day. Follow by replying comments, reading RSS until 2am.
Arrgh, I seriously need to take a post-CNY break
