future cancer drug from shark blood?!

This morning i read an article from BBC News feeds by using google reader, and noticed this amazing discovery from researcher in Australia. Basically is about antibodies present in the blood of shark. Ability of shark's antibodies to withstand harsh temperature as well as extreme pH condition have make these compounds become of great interest in cancer research.

Hmmm...,next time when i eat shark porridge, I have to appreciate potential great contribution from shark, haha.

Shark Blood Could Help Save Lives. The Australian team found the shark molecules can also attach themselves to cancer cells and stop them from spreading. The cells actually grow less than where we don't add a shark antibody or we add a completely irrelevant shark antibody. So this indicates the shark antibody that we have is binding to those cancer cells and for some reason causing them to grow more slowly and perhaps even killing them.

Hi mikemathew, thank for your comment. This is very interesting. Anyway, I still not clear about the mechanism or how does the shark antibody can prevent the spread of cancerous cells as well as its specific affinity to cancerous cell, perhaps i will search for the literature on this study..:-)

ya..anyway i check from the australian group..pls find the following websites, details about their research. According to them,I think they only draw the blood from them, rather than kill them..hehe:-
