Journal Citation Report 2008

Latest Journal Citation Report is a publication by Thomson Reuters

Ability to publish paper in high impact factor is essential for our future career in research and academia. We also can assess research quality of a researcher through type of papers they published. Some time, a good paper can earn you a permanent scholarly position in the institution.

Unfortunately, as far as I concern my previous uni or even the country do not focus on the effort to encourage students/ researchers/ academician to publish their findings. Anyway, most of the high impact journals only report findings from basic/clinical science research rather than applied science.

Haha, if you guys don’t mind, can visit the publication by my undergrad school’s researchers, and see where do they publish their paper? What is the impact factor?

Detail description of Journal Citation Reports from the publisher:-

Journal Citation Reports® offers a systematic, objective means to critically evaluate the world's leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. By compiling articles' cited references, JCR helps to measure research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals. ”

This year the top 10 (out of 6598 journals!) high impact journals are:-

Grateful with the opportunity I have.

sometimes publishingneedsalot support the Institution and supervisors. Malaysian uni still not keen on doing research and publish, that why many students miss the chance. Btw less grant offered to basic science than the applied science (which gvt offer more for industralised product) here. So keep up your good work there, coz if back in msia really hard to publish. :-)

ya..and that's we don't hv great impact in international forum. I agree applied science graduant hv more job prospect, but thiking the fact of scientific contribution, all applied research were based upon basic/ clinical findings, and i always believe basic has great knowldge developement (note: no jeopardise on applied reseachers , :-)

one day, i will foster this culture back to msia, when it comes to the right time..haha

actually there are few lecturers in local uni keen on doing basic science field, but too bad it is the govt "quota" to give more fund for applied science. And most of these lecturers are burden with admin works.. very ashamed that we're living in country with this kind of mindset.
